For Traumatic Change and Personal Loss
As you inhabit this new reality--
the changes that have been forced upon
you,
the physical pain, the disruption of
what has so long
been a sustaining part of who you are
and what you have been—
may you discover that your scars,
all that you have lost
deepen your spirit—
the core of breath that has always made
you beautiful--
which can never be severed by knife,
nor taken from you.
May you reach down deeply
to claim the songs you know are true;
may you reach out to the hands of those
who know you best,
who hear your song, and know your song.
May you find yourself
strong beyond your imagining,
and in your weakness may you find
strength
to open your hands to the care of
others.
May you find your compassion enlivened,
flowing in rivers to feed others
as you have been fed.
May you allow yourself rest
and patience to grieve what was good,
which you loved rightly and well.
And may you find courage in the days to
come
and grace to meet each day,
and may you be surprised by joy.
