Lenten Poem 2
So God
I've been bitching lately
And you know it
And I don't know whether you're weary with me
like I'm weary of Elspeth
when all I've told her is to brush her teeth
and she's staring into the mirror instead
singing Taylor Swift songs
or if you're weary of me like I'm weary of Bea
who yelled at me from the backseat
as if I was in charge of making her life perfect
or maybe
it's like when I sit at the edge of their beds
and look at them and wonder
at the curve of their cheeks
the way their chests fall and rise
and laugh to myself with a little sigh
How crazy they are sometimes
but how I'm so grateful
so grateful
that I brought them into this world.
I've been bitching lately
And you know it
And I don't know whether you're weary with me
like I'm weary of Elspeth
when all I've told her is to brush her teeth
and she's staring into the mirror instead
singing Taylor Swift songs
or if you're weary of me like I'm weary of Bea
who yelled at me from the backseat
as if I was in charge of making her life perfect
or maybe
it's like when I sit at the edge of their beds
and look at them and wonder
at the curve of their cheeks
the way their chests fall and rise
and laugh to myself with a little sigh
How crazy they are sometimes
but how I'm so grateful
so grateful
that I brought them into this world.

They kinda blow everything out of perspective AND bring everything into perspective don't they?!
